Learn how Sudaka Labs has re-engineered RocketBackup's infrastructure moving away from a single Melbourne-based datacenter and integrating with Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure and OpenStack to leverage a national cloud-agnostic platform.
RocketBackup is an Australian managed cloud-based backup service for businesses of all shapes and sizes. It also offers its services to several organisations at different levels of the Australian government because their datacentre has achieved the IRAP certification, along with ISO/IEC 27018 and Cloud Security Alliance (CSA) certifications, and is compliant with HIPAA and the HITECH Act.
After a successful launch in Australia with a single datacentre in Melbourne the company decided to further improve their service by bringing their cloud closer to their customers. This meant expanding from a single datacentre to multiple datacentres in Australia, leveraging different providers while maintaining the quality of service, the security and integrity of data and setting up the infrastructure for further expansions in the region.
Moving away from a single datacentre meant that RocketBackup would need to rely on multiple cloud providers and integrate in a way that did not disrupt existing customers and provided a seamless experience for their users regardless of where their data was being stored.
The solution implemented by Sudaka Labs was to build a platform that could easily leverage services from Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure and other providers for locations where neither Amazon nor Microsoft were present.
RocketBackup''s foundation was re-engineered by integrating it with AWS, Azure and OpenStack. Adopting OpenStack enabled RocketBackup to quickly add datacentres outside major cities and make them part of their national grid.
As soon as RocketBackup''s new infrastructure was complete, the company immediately added Sydney as a new location for their users to store their backups. The company is also launching new locations in Canberra and Perth in the second half of 2018, giving it a unique advantage for catering to government agencies of all levels.
The new implementation did not have any major issues and customer satisfaction remains very high.
RocketBackup is now reaping the benefits of a cloud-agnostic platform with huge success in Australia. That success, in combination with the versatility of the new infrastructure built by Sudaka Labs, has given RocketBackup the ability to expand in the region with plans to service New Zealand and Singapore in 2019.
